Young Masons Initiative

DGLTT&G Young Masons Initiative

The Young Masons Initiative is a project of the Grand Lodge of Scotland with a focus on the younger brethren in the craft.

The District Grand Lodge of Trinidad and Tobago & Grenada through the Right Worshipful District Grand Master, Brother Luis Jean Baptiste introduced the brethren to the project at a Town Hall meeting in early 2023. He then selected a brother in keeping with the meaning of ‘Young Mason’ as was clearly defined by the Grand Lodge of Scotland and gave a broad directive to that young brother in relation to the project.

The Young Mason was given the directive in April 2023 and within a one month period a team of young brethren of like mind was formed and the directive carried out. The result of that initial directive was the 1st Annual Young Masons Cookout which was held thirty days after the directive was given on the 5th May 2023. The event was a success and in October of 2023 that team of Young Masons was formalized into the 1st Young Masons Initiative Committee.

Due to the peculiar nature of Caribbean freemasonry and Caribbean culture it was decided that the Young Masons Initiative would be best served as an ongoing committee of the District rather than a separate entity. The committee could rely on the District in terms of financial infrastructure while preserving it’s autonomy with its reporting function being directly to the District Grand Master.

The committee created its own succession planning structure, rules of engagement and work plan with full autonomy fro the District and is composed of a Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer who make up the executive. There are also 13 Lodge representatives and their alternates who have been duly approved by their mother Lodges to serve as liaisons between the committee and the lodges.

The Young Masons Initiative Committee has since its inception provided support to the District in their events and charitable initiatives , launched a masonic education lecture series,  hosted fellowship events and will be embarking on a health and well being drive in the near future as well as its own charitable initiatives.
